From the presentation made by Public Health Minister, Andre Mama Fouda, Maternal and neonatal motality rate has reduced from the 6000 women who died annually.

This is thanks to a program set up in November 2013 christened National Multi Sectional Program for the fight against maternal and infant mortality .

The program involved stake holders from National and International bodies working to reduce the death of women during child birth, new born babies and children.

The Minister of Public Health said 680 midwives trained within the framework of the program, nurses, doctors, midwives reinforced their capacity during seminars; 3720 service providers of various human reproductive health professions were also trained.

Government also constructed and equiped ten mother and child centres.

A pilot subsidy program for health care where each pregnant woman pays 6000 frs CFA instead of 60, 000frs CFA for health care services was introduced.

So far, 70, 000 women have benefited from the subsidy with fruitful results.

Mr. Andre Mama concluded that the 2017 to 2020 strategies for Maternal and neonatal healthcare services will focus more in the Northern and the East Regions of the country.
