New Stars of Douala have been crowned 2017 champion of the Cup of Cameroon for the first time ever.

New Stars edged Union des Mouvements Sportifs (UMS) of Loum 1-0 at the Yaounde Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium this Sunday 10th December 2017 during the 2017 Cup of Cameroon finals.

The lone goal that sealed the deal for New Stars came at the 43rd minute of play by 24-year -old Alain Roger Nandougang
who was crowned “Man of the Match”.

The midfielder was voted best player of the 58th edition of the Cup of Cameroon after winning 21 points. (Black William his fellow team mate second, got 12 points.)

During the match, continous efforts from UMS of Loum did not pay off as New Stars were permanently on the offensive.

Upon resumption of second half of the game, both teams remained tactical, maximising scoring opportunities.

News Stars pressed hard and came very close but it was a failed opportunity.Shots executed by UMS were abortive at every instance.

New Stars is 23rd team to get the prestigious trophy.

The trophy was handed over to the winners, by the Head of State in a ceremony to end the 2017 sporting season in Cameroon.
President Paul Biya handed other trophies to the champions of single and collective sports disciplines.

This year’s ceremony was characterised by a spectacular choreographic parade highlighting Cameroon’s cultural diversity .

Most of the groups in participation brandished messages of peace, unity, fraternity and stability.
