A system to ease the application and issuance of building permits through an online portal is being discussed in Douala.
The system which is expected to be effective by January 2018 is being constructed with support from Tunisian experts.
The Secretary General at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (MINDHU), Ahmadou Sardaouna was at the Douala 3 Council to review and validate the report on the project.
After examining the strengths and weaknesses of the electronic system, the Secretary General assured participants of the session that CFA 300 million from the Public Investment Budget for 2018, will be used up to finance the initiative.
The SG highlighted the importance of the endeavour which many are agreed, will reduce fraud, hasten the process and uphold transperency.
The Douala Council officials made a number of proposals in relation to the system, timeline and security of the project.
The project is in line with the Prime Minister’s recommendations at the 2017 edition of the Cameroon Business Forum where he called for mordenised procedures in relation to the cost and processing time of building permit applications.
