State House: President Paul Biya receives Nigerian High Commissioner

The Nigerian High Commissioner to Cameroon, H.E Lawan Abba Gashagar was bearer of a sealed message from President Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

After a 30-minute audience, the Diplomat indicated to the press that bilateral relations between Cameroon and Nigeria were on the agenda for discussion.

H.E Lawan Abba Gashagar said their discussion also touched on the crisis in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon.

“The Nigerian government supports a return to peace and the preservation of Cameroon’s territorial intergrity”. The diplomat who was special envoy of President Buhari also recommended dialogue as the best way of tackling the crisis.

The audience took place at a time when there have been repeated attacks and killing of uniformed officers by assaillants believed to be coming into Cameroon from Nigeria.

It is estimated that thousands of Cameroonians have left the country and crossed over to Nigeria.

Some of these displaced persons flee to safety while others leave to join armed groups.

This movement is being facilitated by the fact that Cameroon and Nigeria have a three month visa exempt for their nationals.

The Nigerian High Commissioner once again reiterated his country’s comitment to reinforce security within border areas so Nigeria shall not be perceived as safe haven for terrorist groups.

As part of continous cooperation between the two countries, Cameroon’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation Rene Emmanuel Sadi was bearer of a special message from President Paul Biya to President Muhammadu Buhari on 15th November 2017.
