Cameroon has joined the world to commemorate the International Day of Customs, this Friday, 26th January.
This year’s commemoration held on the slogan “A secure Business Environment for Economic Development ”
During the event marking the day, the Minister of Finance, Alamine Ousman Mey told custom officials in Cameroon to add their quota in
making Cameroon’s business environment safer and secure. He added it will enhance economic development.
In a CRTV interview, the minister underlined peace as a major catalyst for economic development.
” Without peace, we can not promote development. Our Customs administration is going to redouble efforts towards protecting, developing, easing business and making our dream come true.”
The Minister further disclosed that Cameroon needs to raise about 800,000 billion franc exclusively from collective resources in 2018.
During the current year, the government will facilitate trade ,the flow of goods, people and finances in order to boost the economy.
Cameroon’s private sector is in search of a secured business environment, a protective administration to combat fraud , criminal operations and illicit trade. The minister expressed government’s resolve to implement measures that will rid the business environment of such malpractices.
World Customs Day is traditionally observed on 26th January. It was instituted to recognize the role of Custom officials and agencies in maintaining border security.It also addresses challenges of custom officials around the world .
The day was first commemorated in 1953 when the inaugural session of the Customs took place in Brussels- Belgium , with seventeen countries in attendance.
