ELECAM : Electoral Board meets in view of Senatorial Election

 The First Ordinary  Session of the Electoral Board of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM opened this Thursday 15th February 2018 at the Yaounde Monte Febé Hotel. The main focus of the meeting was preparations for the Senatorial Elections scheduled for 25th March 2018.

The Chairman of the Electoral Board, Enow Abrams Egbe who presides the Ordinary Session noted that preparation must be psychological, material and technical.

He reiterated that the session is holding in keeping with provisions of section 19 paragraph 2 of the electoral code which stipulates that the Electoral Board must meet at least once after every two weeks upon the convening of the electorate.

Enow Abrams called for vigilance throughout the Electoral process considering the present Anglophone crisis and other security challenges. He called for tolerance, greater responsibility, and cooperation to guarantee serenity, team spirit and positive attitude.

He also announced the holding of capacity building seminars for members of the electoral board to upgrade their skills in managing the electoral process. The training is expected before the elections.

ELECAM’s officilals in charge of ICT, Eyango Mbundi Jule noted that a digital application is already available for use during the senatorial election.

The application is apt to carryout the following functions:

– Follow up the revision of the Electoral register

– Produce and distribute voters’ card

– Monitor the electoral process, voting, counting, and proclamation of the results.

– Checkout gender balance.

– The system also has a database that will keep track

of all documents stored and ensure that no document gets missing.

– It ensures interconnectivity of all ELECAM branches throughout nationwide.

The digital system was installed six months ago with the help of some computer experts.

The Director General of Elections Cameroon and his Deputy were also present at the meeting open to ELECAM board members.
