FECAFOOT Normalisation Committee : FIFA accords a six month extension

The mandate of the Normalisation Committee of  FECAFOOT has been extended for a period of six month.

The visiting FIFA delegation announced the decision on Tuesday 27th February 2018 during a press conference to mark the end of the working visit to Cameroon.

Accordingly, the President of the Normalisation Committee at FECAFOOT, Dieudonne Happi and his team will continue to manage the affairs of FECAFOOT till 31st August 2018.

The second mandate which begins this Wednesday 28th February 2018 accorded to the committe has triggered many questions.

FECAFOOT Normalisation Committee : why the extension?

The head of the FIFA delegation who is  Director of Development in charge of Africa and the Carribeans, Mossengo Veron Omba explains that the decision to prolonge the mandate of the Normalisation Committee of FECAFOOT was based on the following findings;

– The existence of an ongoing forensic audit of FECAFOOT during the period of 2013-2017. “The forensic audit is not particular to Cameroonian football. This is a process FIFA conducts when there is a normalisation committee… this is one of the activities to be carried out before the (FECAFOOT) elections” Mossengo Veron Omba said.

-The modification of the 2011 Physical Education Law, a law which was expected to be revised in November 2017.

Mr Happi-led team will therefore spend another six months at the FECAFOOT headquaters in Tsinga during this time, it shall be expected to organise  elections for a new FECAFOOT executive committee.

The committee will also within this period, manage the affairs of the FECAFOOT and  designate a head coach for the national team that has been without one for sometime.

Before the press briefing,Veron Mossengo Omba and the three man delegation, held talks with the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Bidoung Mpkatt and officials of FECAFOOT.https://www.crtv.cm/2018/02/fecafoot-normalisation-committee-fifas-mission-comes-to-cameroon/

During the closed-door meeting,  the Minister assureded the FIFA officials that the revised  2011 Physical Education Law shall be submitted to Parliament during the March session.

Hopes are high that in the next six months, the Normalisation Committee  should be able to put complete order in FECAFOOT which was plagued with in-house squabbles and quarrels with the Chamber of Conciliation and Arbitration of the National Olympic and Sports Committee of Cameroon
