Yaoundé-Douala highway: First phase of construction hits 70%

The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Public Contracts, Abba Sadou has expressed satisfaction with the execution rate of the first phase of the Yaoundé-Douala Motorway.

He visited the site on 8th February with a team of experts from the Ministry of Public Contracts to assess the execution of the first phase of the project.

The visiting delegation was glad to realise the execution rate stands at 70%, four years after the contract was awarded to the China First Engineering Highway Company.

This first phase of the project covers a distance of sixty kilometers with twenty kilometers already tarred.

The contractors fear the 40km left shall witness a delay as locals continue to occupy the stretch complaining of none payment of the compensation promised by government .

These hurdles notwithstanding, an enveloppe of CFA 290 billion (two hundred and ninety billion Francs) has been set aside for the completion of the first phase of the project which covers a distance of 195km.

During the visit, Minister Abba Sadou enjoined the contractors to accelerate the work in order to meet up with the deadline set for October 2018.

The construction of this highway was innitiated in 2014 to reduce urban disorder, improve economic activities and transport flow between the political and economic capitals of Cameroon.
