33rd Women’s Day: Public Institutions plan diverse activities

The 33rd edition of the International Women’s Day is barely two days away and several activities are being organised across the country by ministries and corporations in build up to the day.

At the Cameroon Radio Television (CRTV), the women are this Tuesday 6th March 2018, visiting and donating articles to a Centre for the blind in Nlongkak, Yaounde.

This will be followed by a roundtable at Studio One of the Production Centre in Mballa II, Yaounde. The theme for discussion is “Gender, media and ethical excellence.”

Over at the Cameroon Editing and Publishing Company (SOPECAM), health checks are on-going for all women. This includes free STI screening and lessons on family planning offered in partnership with the Cameroon National Association for Family Welfare (CAMNAFAW).

On Wednesday, 7th March 2018 SOPECAM’s women will be showcasing their culinary skills and Cameroon’s cultural diversity through a gastronomic exhibition.

At the Urban and Rural Lands Development and Equipment Authority (MAETUR), the women took part in a sports walk at the Ministry of Defence this 6th March 2018.

On 7th March 2018, the women of MAETUR will engage in educative talks at the Spanish Embassy where there will be an exhibition and later, the projection of a film on gender-based violence within households.

Over at the Ministry of Arts and Culture, the women had a march practice session then watched a film this 6th March 2018.

They also had a roundtable at the Cameroon Cultural Centre in Yaounde.

In addition to these, on Wednesday 7th March 2018, they will thrill their peers and male counterparts in a special fashion parade and culinary exhibition after midday followed by a special buffet.

As for women of the Ministry of Transport, they will be part of a roundtable on Wednesday 7th March 2018 as from two pm. The discussions will centre on: Women and Social networking sites, Women, Peace and Security and Women and HIV / AIDS.

It is a similar thing for women of the Ministry of Finance who had seminars on the theme of this year’s Women’s Day and health campaigns.

As has been the case over the years, all these commemorative activities will be crowned with the march past on Women’s Day, 8th March 2018 and special buffets later in the day.

It is worth recalling that the national theme of this edition of the International Women’s Day is “Intensify the fight against discrimination on women: Strengthen partnership to speed up sustainable development”.
