Inmates in seven prisons in the Centre Region have received a total of 1081 mosquito bed nets to fight malaria as the country braces up to commemorate World Malaria Day.
The donation was made this 17th April 2018 by the Association Camerounaise pour le Marketing Social (ACMS) and Exxon Mobil/COTCO, one of its financial partners.
The prisons in the localities of Bafia, Mbalmayo, Mfou, Monatele, Nanga-Eboko, Ndikimineki and Sa’a will benefit from this special package.
Handing over the mosquito bed nets to the representative of the Ministry of Justice, the Executive Director of ACMS, Godlove Ntaw explained that the donation is within the framework of the World Malaria Day on 25th April and the desire to reach out to prisoners.
The representative of the Minister of Justice, the Centre Regional Delegate for Penitentiary Administration, Patience Dieudonne Edoa Aniga expressed gratitude to ACMS for the goodwill gesture.
He explained that the gift is a stitch in time following the 2016 Human Rights report stating that the malaria prevalence rate in the prison milieu is 26%.
Penitentiary administrators from the seven selected localities in the Centre Region received the consignment of bed nets for onward transmission to beneficiaries.

The 11th edition of the World Malaria Day will be commemorated on 25th April 2018 with theme, ‘Ready to beat malaria’
Malaria, it should be noted is one of the main causes of infant deaths in Cameroon, according to statistics from the World Health Organisation.
