2018 Commonwealth Games: Cameroonian athletes return home
Cameroonian athletes and accompanying delegations have returned to the country after the sojourn in Gold Coast, Australia.
The delegation touched down at the Yaounde Nsimalen Airport in the early hours of Tuesday 17th April 2018 with dissappointing looks on their faces.
The dissappointment notwithstanding, family and fans gave them a warm welcome.
The athletes got hugs while others posed for photos sessions.
At the airport to receive the delegation was the Secretary General in the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, Emmanuel Tado, officials from the Athletics Federation, Personnel of the Commonwealth office, family and friends.
After the national anthem, the three medalists, Seyi Wilfried, Marcel Mayack II and Clementine Meukeugni Noumbissi were each offered bouquet of flowers .
Clementine Meukeugni Noumbissi who won bronze in weight lifting expressed joy to be home.
Other athletes aggreed it was a dissappointing venture for team Cameroon but said much have been learnt from the expirience.
A good number of the remaining athletes recounted the incident of the escape of eight athletes from the camp.
From the Airport, the delegation left to the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex where they were greeted by the Minister of Sports and Physical Education,Bidoung Mpkatt.
Cameroon was ranked the 32nd out of 71 participating countries after grabbing just three medals in a total of nineteen disciplines.
Cameroon sent in 42 athletes at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and only 34 finally returned.
