Football: Zinedine Zidane leaves Real Madrid

Former football superstar, French born Zinedine Zidane has announced his resignation from the Spanish team.

Zizou leaves Real Madrid after winning three straight Champions league titles.

In a press conference, Zinedine Zidane announced that he will step down from his post as Real Madrid’s manager with immediate effect.

The announcement comes just five days after he led Los Blancos (Real Madrid) to an unprecedented 2018 Champions League trophy over English team, Liverpool.

The footballer had a successful career with Juventus, Real Madrid and co. during which he won trophies including Serie A, La Liga and Champions League before hanging his boots after 2006 World Cup.

In 2014, the 45-year-old went back to Spain Castilla (Real Madrid) this time as coach.

In January 2016, the celebrated footballer, rated one of the best football coaches took over from Rafael Benitez who was released for dismal performance.

Coach Zidane started-off by guiding Real Madrid to Champions League glory, beating Atletico Madrid in a penalty shootout.

Real Madrid kept the title in 2017 becoming the first team in modern history to preserve the title for two successful years.

His team did not get La Liga of the  2017/18 season but  had three successive Champions League titles by defeating Liverpool at Kiev a week ago.

-Zinedine Zidane made his debut with Real Madrid in 2016 and was crowned best FIFA Men’s Coach in 2017.

-He coached 149 games

-Won three straight Champion league titles: 2016, 2017 and 2018.

At club level, he won La Liga title and the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid, two Serie A league championships with Juventus and an Intercontinental Cup and a UEFA Super Cup with both teams:

  • Real Madrid and Juventus

# Named the FIFA World Player of the Year three times, in 1998, 2000 and 2003, and won the 1998 Ballon d’Or.

# Ligue 1 Player of the Year in 1996

# Serie A Footballer of the Year in 2001

# La Liga Best Foreign Player in 2002.

# In 2004, he was named in the FIFA 100, a list of the world’s greatest living players compiled by Pelé.

Zidane received the Golden Ball for player of the tournament at the 2006 World Cup, despite his controversial head-butting of Marco Materazzi.
