2018 FIFA World Cup: Egypt and Morocco bow out of tournament

Two of  five African teams taking part at the ongoing 2018 World Cup in Russia have been eliminated.

The Pharoahs of Egypt were whipped by Russia, the host country 3-1 and Uruguay 1-0.

The Atlas Lions of Morocco on her part were pushed out after two 1-0 defeats from Spain and Portugal, the  current European champion.

From Group A, Russia and Uruguay with six points each, have qualified to round 16.

In Group B, Spain and Portugal with four and six points respectively have joined those in round 16.

Though eliminated, Egypt and Morocco will finish their group games against Saudi Arabia and Spain respectively.

Two other teams from Africa that have registered defeat will get on the football ring this week; Nigeria and Tunisia.

The Super Eagles of  Nigeria will take on the debutant Iceland on Saturday 23th June 2018

The team later faces-off with Argentina, a team Nigeria has played four times during previous World Cups and lost every single game.

Ahead of the match, German trainer Gernot Rohr says he aims to, at least “give a good performance and show high morale.”

Tunisia has been voted among the outsiders of the tournament.The team from North African could not resist  Belgium in the first game.

Tunisia faces Panama and England in the two remaining matches.

Senegal, in a relatively comfortable position, ranks 23rd on the FIFA world ranking, the highest placed African team.

The Aliou Cisse-led team has three points and two matches on the rundown.

It is the second time Senegal goes to the World.
