The Minister of Culture , Prof. Narcisse Mouelle Kombi has launched the third edition of the Young Writers National Contest.
The theme of the present edition is ” Cultural Diversity, Identity and National Unity”.
The communique signed by the Minister states that contenders will participant in two literary genres; short Stories and Poetry.
The contest is open to Cameroonians of both sexes resident in the country or abroad.
The Short Stories and Poetry to be presented should not have been published on any publication platform.
The enteries can be submitted in any of the two official languages from 1st June- 31st August 2018. Meanwhile,
The Regional Delegations of Culture are expected to facilitate registration formalities for all interested persons.
The Young Writer’s National Contest was introduced to awaken the intellectual and creative capacity of Cameroonian youths. It is also seeks to increase national literary content and enhance the culture of reading amongst the youth.
The Defending Champions
The winners of the 2017 edition of the contest were recognised on 22nd September 2017 during a ceremony organised at the Cameroon cultural Centre.
The theme of the last edition was ” Cultural heritage and the Development of Cameroon ”
Edouard Bengono Essola 26 year old was crowned winner of the short story category.
His work was titled ” Maimouna ou la Fatalite”. Meanwhile, thirty-three-year old Niba Fontoh’s “the Dilemma” was voted as the best entry for the Poetry category.
The two winners were each received 500,000frs and didactic materials worth 150,000frs.The second winner for each category were each awarded 350,000frs and the 3rd and 4th winners took home 150,000frs each.
