Fire has consumed one shop at the Yaoundé Central Market.Thanks to the prompt reaction of the Operational Unit of the Fire Fighting Brigade, the flames were prevented from ravaging six other shops during the incident that occured this Tuesday 12th June 2018.
The fire is reported to have begun around 6:00 am.After receiving a distress call, the Fire Fighting Brigade quickly rushed to the scene.The officials confessed, access to the shop was difficult but the flames were contained after a one-and-half hour struggle.
One shop had already been consumed. Thankfully the flames were prevented from spreading to six adjacent shops.
Previous Fire Incidents
Fire incidents have become recurrent in markets with the last reported at the Yaoundé Central Market in August 2017.The present incident comes one month after that of the Bertoua market.
In April 2017, the Etoudi and Kumbo markets were burnt down but the worse record that month was the fire at the Limbe market that reduced fifty shops to ashes.In December 2017 it was the turn of the Bonamoussadi market .The Santa and Muyuka markets also retain sad memories of fire incidents.
Back in Yaounde, the cause of the fire that has not yet been established but many of such incidences are attributed to poor electrical connections.
