Centre for people with disabilities: New management resolve to correct past wrongs

The new Director General of the Cardinal Paul Emile Leger National Rehabilitation Centre for People with Disabilities, CNRPH has taken up duty.

Mr Alexandre Manga was installed on Monday 25th June 2018 by the Minister of Social affairs, Pauline Irene Nguene.

Installing the General Manager, the Minister of Social Affairs called for a more efficient treatment of patients.

The National Centre for the Rehabilitation of Handicap Persons of Etoug-Ebe is the only government rehabilitation centre in Yaounde.

New GM; a timely intervention

The installation of a new General Manager comes at a time when management-employee relation is at its worse.

There has been a prolonged strike of personnel of the institution protesting against what they considered bad management.

The yearlong strike action began in January 2017 when the employees, through the staff delegates presented a thirteen point revandication to management.

Amongst their demands, the personnel asked for;

#The signing of the public health Collective Agreement for employees.

#Housing allowance for employees within the categories 1-6.

#More efficient distribution of government subvention to employees

Retired personnel of the institution joined the protesting workers asking for months of unpaid pension and complaining of being excluded from government’s subvention.

In spite of numerous meetings between management and staff delegates, no solution was found.

The former General Manager, frustrated with the deteriorating social climate, engaged in all right confrontation with the protesting workers by issuing quarrel letters to those she considered leaders of the protest.

The atmosphere went from bad to worse. Activity in the centre was reduced to the barest minimum with the first victims being patients.

Government’s timely intervention.

A Presidential decree appointed Mr Manga who has been deputy GM to replace Madam Fomulu Grace.

During his installation, the new manager acknowledged the lack of employee motivation.

He promised to improve on the social climate and have the Cardinal Paul Emile Leger National Rehabilitation Centre for People with Disabilities accomplish the missions assigned to it.
