International Cycling Tour: Rwanda get yellow jersey at 5th lap

The excitement of the 15th edition of the 2018 International Cycling Tour of Cameroon carried on to the fifth lap this Thursday 31st May 2018.

The cyclist covered a 121.5km stretch from Mbanga to Bafang in the West Region.

The topography was hilly for some of the cyclists and many considered the lap as one of the most tedious.

But the Rwanda team beat the odds and ended the day with outstanding victories.

Rwanda’s Bonaventure Uwiyzeyimama claimed the yellow jersey after covering the fifth lap in 3hrs 23mins and 37secs.

The Rwanda team recorded the best performance in the lap and got encouragement from Team Director, Felix Sampoma.

“I am very happy to win a stage of the tour of Cameroon. It was a difficult stage because there were a lot of hills to climb, we have the yellow jersey, we are very happy. We made many laps of Cameroon and this is the first time we have the yellow jersey.”

The 2nd position of the lap was occupied by Varhanovsky Jakub of Slovakia who arrived 1min20secs.

Cameroon’s Michel Tchiencheu came third.

Day 5 of the International Tour of Cameroon ended with the following results.

#Yellow jersey: Rwandan, Uwizeyima Bonaventure

#Green jersey: Rwandan, Uwizeyima  Bonaventure

Leader and bearer of the best yellow jersey: Rwandan, Ukiniwabo Jean Paul.

#White jersey with red polka dots (best climber): Ivorian, Bamba Karamo

 

Leader and bearer of the blue jersey, Cameroonian: Tekou Damien

In the general classification, Uwizeyimana Bonaventure is ranked first with a total of 639.6 km in 13h52’33 “”

The first Cameroonian Damien Tekou comes in at the 15th position.

The 6th stage is Friday 1st June 2018.

The athletes will cover a 98km strectch from Bafoussam-Dschang-Bafoussam.
