The news was relief to supporters of the Cameroon Peoples Democratic Movement, CPDM.
The Chairman of the Party, President Paul Biya has agreed to represent the party in the upcoming Presidential Poll.
He made the announcement through his Twirtter account probably as a means of reaching out to the widest audience possible.
A number of candidates had announced intention to represent their party and movements even before the convening of the electorate to the polls on 7th October.
Others had a ten day deadline to declare intentions and deposit files at Elections Cameroon.
The CPDM Chairman, the incumbent, is the latest.
Even before the announcement, CPDM candidates had been very vocal with messages of support to the Chairman.
Messages asking him to be the party’s candidate rained-in from all subsections.
President Paul Biya is described as leader who federates, most qualified to lead the country through its present challenges.
The announcement today echoes like one of the President’s most remembered phrases “Je vous ai compris.”
