The committee for the reception of candidate files for the 7th October 2018 Presidential election at Elections Cameroon, ELECAM has so far received eight files of candidates aspiring to run for the election.
The first candidate to deposit files at the ELECAM head office in Yaoundé, was Boboro Kakoma, an independent candidate. He candidacy file was handed over to the commission for reception of candidate files on Thursday, 12th July 2018 barely four days after the electorate was convened.
He was followed by Kissob Bertin of Cameroon Party for Social Justice who was at the Bastos head office of ELECAM by midday Friday.
Later in the afternoon same day, the file of the incumbent, President Paul Biya was deposited by the Secretary General of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM Party, Jean Kuete and the Minister, Director of the Civil Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic, Samuel Mvondo Ayolo. The candidacy file of the CPDM candidate was deposited some six hours after President Paul Biya in a tweet heeded to the numerous calls for him to stand as their candidate.
The CPDM Scribe told press men that their candidate is the only politician who can guarantee national unity, peace, and sustainable development.
The National Treasurer of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, CRM party, Professor Alain Fogue led a delegation to deposit the files for their presidential candidate, Maurice Kamto. Alain Fogue said the current socio-political situation warrants ELECAM to effectively play its role as referees without taking sides. He said they had a brief discussion with ELECAM officials on some dispositions of the electoral code especially that related to polling stations which have to be at places open to the public.
The candidate of the Popular Front for Development, Akere Muna accompanied by a delegation was at the Yaounde, Bastos head office of ELECAM. He said he party militate change and development on the slogan “united we stand”.
This Tuesday, 17th July 2018, the eighth candidate, Garga Haman Hadji came calling at the ELECAM office with his candidacy file.
Most of the candidates are welcomed by the Director General of Elections at ELECAM, Erik Essousse who leads them to the committee charged with receiving their files after brief civilities.
Each candidate is also given the code of conduct for election stakeholders in Cameroon elaborated by ELECAM.
