The International Mandela Day: A doctrine for sustainable change

The legendary statesman should have been 100 years this 18th July 2018.

Today the World not only celebrates the life of a man but the legacy of a politician second to none.

Nelson Mandela gone but never forgotten as every 18th July peoples of different race and colour carry out special actions to uphold the ideals he stood for.

Nelson Mandela is not just a name but an ideology.

United Nations presently uses the Mandela legacy to impart ideals in today’s society where thousand are still persecuted because they call for a society where everyone is equal and live in freedom.

In one of his historic and much quoted speeches which has even been inscribed on UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register, Madiba said;

“I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.”

*The Nelson Mandela Doctrine*

The International Nelson Mandela Day has come to mean stretching a hand of fellowship to impact the life another.

On the occasion of his 100 birthday 18th July 2018, the Nelson Mandela Foundation honour the statesman by encouraging everyone to take action against poverty in a way that will bring about sustainable change.

“Each of us can make a small difference. If we all make a difference together, our collective effort can truly change the world. Mandela Day is not a holiday.

It is a day for all of us to opt into humanity – to roll up our sleeves and play an active role in building our communities.

This is an opportunity for each of us to share Nelson Mandela’s vision of a better future for all”.

So ask me who is my Mandela, I will tell you, anyone who can bring any small change into my life.
