2019 AFCON : Third CAF inspection mission ends day-one in Yaounde

The third CAF evalaution mission has started a 9-day fact finding mission to Cameroon.


On day-one of the visit, the nine man delegation remained in Yaounde.

The team composed of field experts and CAF officials started the day at the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education as early as 8:45pm.

The Minister assured the guests that Cameroon is fully engaged in a successful Africa Cup of Nations in 2019.


Minister Bidoung Mpkatt who doubles as President of the Local Organising Committee of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, COCAN added that Cameroon is open to any correction.

The mission is headed by Former Ghanian Blackstar and present Assistant Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football, Anthony Baffoe.


They were later escorted to the BEAC training centre at Mvan, one of the soccer training grounds.


From  Mvan the delegation moved to the Yaounde Military Stadium, another facility earmarked for training.

Mr Baffoe and his team made the next stop at the Yaounde Omnisport Stadium, a stadium that has been rehabilitated to suit CAF’s specifications.


The inspection mission left Omnisport to the Olembe construction site and was welcomed by the busy workers.

The team was led round the construction site that is gradually taking shape.

From the main stadium, to the training ground, the hotel as well as the commercial centre, the inspectators curiously took notes.

The media that were discreetly present sensed how detailed and meticulous the present mission fixes to operate.


The Project Manager and his close aids were very handy with information relating to the progress of work.

After the evaluation tour, the Project Director, Soum Thamin attest the principal zones of the structure are near completion.

He said the stadium will be  delivered by 28th December 2018, six months to the big football event.


Some of the experts from the CAF visiting delegation were guests of the Director General of the CRTV .

The CAF mission will carry out a similar exercise in Garoua on day-2 of their working visit . This will be Tuesday 8th August 2018.
