The Minister of Secondary Education, Nalova Lyonga has announced new reforms in the second cycle of Francophone sub system of Education.
According to a press release signed on 23rd August in Yaoundé, the reforms take effect from the present 2018/2019 academic year.
The most outstanding of the change is the introduction of two disciplines and one subject .
Henceforth, philosophy will be introduced in ” seconde ” this academic year.
The two new disciplines are “Sciences Humaines” and “Arts et Cinematographie” .
Six pilot centers have been selected for the experimental phase of the new program.
The second cycle of the Francophone system of education now has four disciplines ;
# series Litteraires ; A1,A2,A3,A4,A5,AB1
# Serie Scientific et technologiques :CD,TI
# Series Humaines: 5H
# series Arts et Cinematographie: AC
Officials at the ministry of secondary education argue that these changes have been made to perfect the competence based approach in education;
an approch which is considered efficient.
” We have evaluated students in the CAP and BEPC based on the competence based approach. It is the pedagogy of success. Last year, we had a record score of 48% but we have moved to 58% this year “.

Government, through these reforms, hopes to professionalise secondary education.
At present, officials say the major challenge is to have the right teachers ensure an effective implementation of the new program.
