Crisis in NW/SW: Women on a protest calling for dialogue and peace
Women in the South West region were on the streets in Buea on Wednesday 29th August 2018 calling for an end to the ongoing socio political crisis in the two English speaking regions.
A coalition of women from the North West and South West social groups came out in group uniforms, wailing and lamenting the disaster caused by the crisis within their families and society.
For over two hours, the women seated on the ground at a popular road junction, bongo square, chanted traditional and religious dirges.
They held up peace plants stating that as mothers, they will not want to lose anymore soul to the ongoing crisis
The placards many carried had had similar messages.
“War is costly but PEACE is priceless,” “our daughters aren’t objects of rape, stop the rape.” etc.
The women fervently appealed for the resumption of schools in the North West and South West regions.
They said they need education in the two regions now more than ever.
The spokesperson of the group emphasised the important role of the woman in nation building and said they cannot sit back and watch their country get into ruins.
She said the women stand for peace and want no more civilian or military bloodshed.
