Some Elites of the south West Region met in Buea on Saturday 25th August 2018 to discuss possible solutions to the ongoing socio political crises in the two English speaking regions of the country.
Convened in Buea at the Mountain Hotel, the theme for reflection was “The South West Region, Facing Our Challenges Together.”
One of the greatest concerns was the escalating violence in the two regions and the risk of a failed academic year.
The elite exhorted Parents to send their children to school stressing on the importance of education to children.
To beef-up security in the region, the assembly called on government to deploy more troops to the regions.
Also as a means to restore the socio-economic and political life of the regions which has been threatened for over two years, the assembly proposed the creation of vigilante groups to survey state and private property.
After taking stock of the socio-economic and political damages caused by the crisis, the elite resolved to make individual and collective contribution to end the violence.
They declared they all stand for a one and indivisible Cameroon and condemn all those who favour secession.
According to the elite, dialogue is the most concrete means to address the problem.
They urged all separatist fighters to drop their arms and begin a new life.
The assembly also persuaded all internally displaced persons to come back home and return to their usual activities.
