2018 Presidential Election: PURS continues campaign after fire incident

The United People for Social Renovation party, PURS has continued intense campaigns in spite of a major set back.

The emblematic Matomba bus caught fire at the entrance to Beka-Guiwang, few kilometres from Meiganga in the Adamawa Region.

Matomba’s team however continued campaign in Meiganga where a crowd came out to listen to the candidate.

Many who heard of the sad incident were eager to get more information on the circumstances under which the incident took place.

The bus fire incident

The PURS team left Garoua Boulai for Meiganga at 9am this 29th September 2018.

A few kilometres before Beka-Guiwang, a spark was noticed by a passing driver.

Mr Yaya the PURS campaign driver was notified. He acted promptly by immediately stopping the vehicle.

A cloud of smoke started coming out of the bus.

All passengers immediately evacuated the bus before sounds of explosion became louder.

Some brave occupants attempted to rescue few items while calling out for help.

Inhabitants of the area and passersby joined the PURS supporters break the windows of the bus to allow enough ventilation and prevent a total explosion.

Elements of the Gendermarie soon arrived the scene and joined rescue efforts.

The PURS team lead by the Presidential Candidate, Serge Espoir Matomba immediately began a prayer session asking for God’s protection.

The fire was finally contained after a good part of the rear of the bus had been consumed.

This sad incidence did not affect the Matomba team’s enthusiasm to win over as many voters as possible.

“We will be facing many types of difficulties but we must have the strength to go forward,” Serge Espoir Matomba stated.

At the end of the fire and prayer session, the PURS orchestra played a few songs to rebuild the morale of team mates before leaving to Meiganga in the Adamawa Region.

Candidate Matomba took the steering of one of the two cars left, the members of the orchestra anchored in the boot of the other car, a pick-up vehicle which carries the team’s speakers and a few others were in the boot of a benevolent passerby’s car.

The PURS team is looking forward to getting another vehicle in the days ahead in order to continue with their campaign with ease.
