The European Union has announced plans to balance economic ties with Africa that could result in the creation of millions of jobs on the continent.
European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker , said the Africa-Europe Alliance for Sustainable Investment and Jobs proposed by the EU will fooster continent-to-continent free trade agreement.
Jean-Claude Juncker announced the new alliance during the State of the Union Address.
He said “Africa does not need charity. It needs true and fair partnership.” According o the EU, the new ‘Africa – Europe Alliance is expected to deepen economic cooperartion, promote increase of private investment in Africa, boost trade, enhance job creation and contribute to sustainable and inclusive development, promote education and skills
The EU president is optismic that the proposed continent-to-continent free trade agreement could generate some 10 million jobs in the next five years in Africa.
- A totol of 105,000 students and accademics will benefit from Eurasmus+ in the next ten years;
- 750,000 people will receive vocational training for skills development;
- 30 million people and companies will benefit from access to electricity through the EU leveraged investment in renewable energy and boosted generation capacity of by 5 GW;
- 24 million people will have access to all-season roads
