The 2018/2019 academic year effectively began this Monday 3rd September 2018 as children, many accompanied by their parents, braved the heavy traffic to get to school on time.Among the thousands are many first- time parents.
The back to school exercise begins months earlier with material and psychological preparation.
Choosing a suitable school for the child is the first step to getting them ready for school.
After the choice has been made, effective enrollment follows before the buying process goes on.
Didactic materials, uniforms, shoes and other items are bought in accordance with the specific school prospectus.
This procedure is not as easy as it sounds, let alone to some first- time parents who usually show preference for items out of the school prospectus.
This explains why school administrators recommend that first-time parents partner with school authorities during this process.
” It’s important for parents preparing their kids for school to seek advice. The administration is here to guide them. Some of them just buy school needs for their kids which don’t respect the prescriptions of the school. We have carefully selected unique books, pens, color pencils and other stationery for our pupils. We use stationery that help develop our children’s creative abilities ”
Eyeme Evina, Headmaster of “Princess Maya” Bilingual primary school
Honest Parents acknowledge the importance of psychological preparation.
” After enrolling my child in school, I got carried away with the material preparation, I didn’t prepare him psychologically.
In school this morning, my son broke down as I left. He wasn’t ready for the separation ”
Mme Janette Afanwi, a Parent, stated.
The choice of school is another problem for first time parents. Some are influenced by trending schools, others by peer pressure. National Education officials frown at the fact that parents do not get the right information to be able to make an informed choice.
” I had a problem of choice. My neighbor’s kids attend a specific school where the Children are doing very well. I did some findings and decided to enroll my son in this school “Mme Veronique Nganjeu another parent recounts her expirience.
As the 2018/2019 school year begins, parents have different stories to tell. In the course of the preprations, decisions taken are always intended to be in the best interest of the child.
