2018 Ngondo Festival: General Assembly agrees on programme
The 2018 edition of the Ngondo Festival will take place from 2nd November to 2nd December 2018. This year’s edition holds under the theme, “Moto Mo, Mboa Po” translated to mean “One People, One Nation”.
Organisers say it is a call on the Sawas and Cameroonians at large, to stay united, loyal and respectful.
In a recent General Assembly, the Acting President of the Ngondo Festival, His Majesty Madiba Songue was encouraged to incite the youth to take part in the cultural festival.
The General Assembly also resolved to step up the fight against environmental destruction and uphold the culture of the Sawa people.
At the end of the meeting, the post of Assistant Secretary General was given to a Sawa woman, Prof Nicole Claire Ndocko.
The month-long festival will be punctuated by a number of activities:
The traditional rulers will carry out a march on the Wouri bridge, there will be a parade of the friends of Douala town, a nautical parade over River Wouri, cooking competition, trade fair, traditional wrestling and the election of Miss Ngondo.
A key figure in the history of Cameroon, Reverend Pastor Adolphe Lotin Same will receive an outstanding hommage for the first time as part of innovations at this edition of the Ngondo Festival.
As it is the tradition, Sawa chiefs will, during the festival, petition the spirits for prophecy and perform traditional rituals.
