2018 presidential Election: social media activities on a decline

Candidates for the 2018 presidential election have maintained a social media presence after the declaration of results on Monday 22nd October 2018.

The interest in this communication channel has been on the spotlight since the President of the Republic announced he was seeking re-election by twitter.

Cabral Libii of the Univers party began canvassing for support through the social media even before the electorate was convened .

All the candidates for the presidential race except Garga Haman Adji and Adamu Ndam Njoya had a dedicated team managing their respective social media accounts.

Through Facebook, twitter, instagram, whatsapp groups and websites, campaigns messages were transmitted.

Wooing electors primarily through the social media was enough to spread messages, manifestos and build relations with electors.
According to available statistics, internet users moved from 11% in 2015 to 25%.

At the proclamation of results, candidates have toned down their activities on social media.

However, most of the accounts which focused on the elections now witness less traffic .
