Bamenda: American pastor assassinated in Bambui

Charles Wesco an America missionary has died from bullet wounds sustained in Bambui, in the North West region of Cameroon.

According to a release from the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Charles Wesco’s vehicle was shot on while driving through Bambui. An attack attributed to separatist fighters some 14 kilometers from Bamenda, the regional capital.

Charles Wesco aged 44 and wife were in the vehicle at the time of the attacked that took place around four corners in Bambui, on Tuesday 30th October 2018 by armed assailants.

He was rushed to a health centre and subsequently evacuated to the Bamenda Regional Hospital where he finally gave up.

The man of God was said to be returning to Bamenda after spending two weeks in Bambui.

His wife, son and another pastor on board the same vehicle were unharmed. This brutal death created consternation within his family and congregation.

Cameroon’s Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo said the army retaliated after the ambush and  neutralized four separatist fighters.

During the exchange of fire, a level-four student of the Higher Technical Teachers Training college and a lieutenant of the army were injured.

Minister Joseph Beti Assomo invited foreign nationals whose presence is indispensable in the two English-speaking regions to report movements to local administrative authorities for appropriate security.

The attack comes barely a week after Professor Paul Mbufong, Director of Academic Affairs at the University of Bamenda had also found murdered by suspected separatists.

Government has reinforced security in the North West and South West regions to check the threats of separatist fighters.
