2018 swearing-in : A preview of the ceremony

The electoral process for the election of the President of the Republic of Cameroon ends this Tuesday, 6th November 2018 ,with the swearing-in of the re-elected President.

The ceremony will take place at the National Assembly, in the Ngoa Ekelle neighbourhood in Yaounde and subsequently,at the State House (Unity Palace) at the Etoudi neighbourhood in Yaounde.

During the ceremony 101 canons salutes will be fired to symbolise the swearing –in of a new Head of State.

According to the Head of the Communication Division at the Ministry of Defence,a type “D” military honours and light security deployment and motorcade will accompany the President elect to the National Assembly.

A battery of the military band will welcome the re-elected President of the Republic to the National Assembly.

At the close of the historic event, that comes once in seven years, a bigger and more comprehensive motorcade will accompany the Head of State to the State House.

He will also be given type “A” military honours at the esplanade of the National Assembly and subsequently at the State House (Unity Palace).

The Electoral code indicates that,the incumbent remains in power till a new president is sworn-in.Thus,there is no discontinuity in the function of the President of the Republic.

At the National Assembly, the President will proceeds to the rostrum to take the oath of office in front of the National Assembly, the Senate, the Constitutional Council and the Supreme Court sitting in a solemn session.

After the swearing –in ritual administered by the Speaker of the National Assembly, the President of the Republic will address the session.

The key speech is expected to highlight the orientation of the government for the next seven years.

It will also detail out guidelines on how the President of the Republic plans to transform campaign promises to feasible projects, that will be realised during the mandate.

After the solemn ceremony, the defence and security forces will pay their allegiance to the sworn in President of the Republic,who is also commander in Chief of the Arm forces.

He will review a heavy deployment of the different components of Cameroon’s defence and security forces.

A motorcade of 40 escort riders and 40 officers on horseback will covey the President of the Republic to the State House.

At the entry of the Unity Palace, the Presidential Guards will pay their allegiance to the Head of State who will review the troops.

The President of the Repubulic will then proceeds to the Unity Palace for the second phase of the event which will include decorations with the highest medals of the land.
