HIV /AIDS: Statistics on prevalence
The statistics from the Ministry of Public Health indicates a general drop in the HIV/AIDS prevalence rate in Cameroon.
According to the results, the rate has reduced from 4.3 percent in 2017 to 3.4 percent in 2018.
The sharp decline has been attributed to the increased usage of anti retroviral drugs and prevention.
Vulnerable Groups
Despite the general reduction, adults aged between 15 qand 64 remain the most exposed group.
Women are also more likely to pick the virus than men. Women are the most affected with a 9.3% prevalence rate from ladies age between 40 and 44 years, meanwhile 6.0% of men between 50 and 54 ans.While those amongst the age of 15-24 have a percentage rate of 1.2%.
Regional Prevalence rates
At the regional level, statistics show that the South Region has the highest prevalence rate which stands at 6,3% per cent while the Far North region has the least numbers of registered cases representing 1.5% per cent of the population.
Prevalence Rates in Regions
The South Region has the highest rate, 6.3% down from 7.2% in 2017.
The rate in the East regions stands at
5.9% down from 6.3% in 2017
Centre region has 5.8% down from 6.5%.
North West Region this year has 5,1% down from 6,3% in 2017.
The Adamawa comes in the Fifth position with a rate of 4.9%
South West registered 3,6% while the Littoral region has 3.1%.
The West is in the eight position having a percentage rate of 2.7%.
In the North and the Far North, the prevelence rate of HIV/AIDS is very low with regards to the national average rate.
The former has a percentage of rate of 1.6%, while the latter has registered a percentage rate of 1.5%.
The general statistics was produced after a national research was conducted within the month of July 2017 and February 2018.
