World Pneumonia Day : Health Experts emphasize on prevention

Cameroon joins the world this 12th November 2018 to observe world pneumonia day.

The theme for reflection this year is “Stop Pneumonia: invest in child health “.

In the absence of an event on a national scale, healthcare providers have been discussing the causes, prevention and treatment of the infection.

Pneumonia is first of all described as a viral infection that attacks the lungs.Recurrent cases of pneumonia are witnessed amongst children under five and adults above sixty years.The bacterial infection is considered as the leading cause of death in children under five years .

The four identified causes of pneumonia are ;
# Bacteria
# viruses
# Mycoplasma
# fungi including pneucystis

Some of the many symptoms of pneumonia are ;
Fever, headache, joint pain, fatigue chest pain, severe cough and loss of appetite.

Good practices to fight the infection include;
#regular exercise
#healthy diet
#no smoking.

World Pneumonia Day was instituted by the Global coalition against Child Pneumonia in 2009.

It is a day when policy makers and Healthcare providers partner to raise awareness on the killer infection.
