The 2018 National Games of Cameroon, Dixiade , has kicked off in the west regional capital of Bafoussam
The high profile sporting and cultural event was officially launched by the Deputy Secretary General at the Presidency, personal representative of President Paul Biya, Elung Paul Che.
Speaking at the Bafoussam Omnisport Stadium, Paul Elung Che asked the close to two thousands athletes to use the event to consolidate peace and strengthen national unity.
He extended President Paul Biya’s message of love to the young athletes while cautioning them to be professional during the competitions.
He further noted that the President has reassured him of his intent to ensure quality sports, deployment of the best human resources and the provision of equipment and sporting opportunities to youths.
Earlier during the launch of the biennial event, the Government Delegate to the Bafousssam City Council, Emmanuel Nzete took to the rostrum to welcome the athletes, visitors, special guests and various dance groups, top government officials and sports authorities amongst others to the town he described ”a home to all”.
The General Coordinator of the National Games of Cameroon, Minister Gregoire Owona stated that no unfair play will be tolerated during the long week activities.
He exhorted the athletes to uphold values of discipline, determination, fair play and in all be ambassadors of their regions during their stay in Bafoussam.
To the over one hundred trainers and volunteers, Gregoire Owona said they should exercise their duties with impartiality and pedagogy.
The President of the National Olympic and Sports Committee, Kalkaba Malboum highlighted fair play, respect of opponents, and respect of rules of the Olympic games as ideals for the growth of Olympic values in Cameroon.
The event was marked by a heavy display of the grass field cultures.
For the next seven days, teenagers will compete in thirteen different sporting discipline.
