Activities for 547th edition of the Nguon festival were officially launched on Sunday 2nd December 2018 with sporting activities dominated the first day of events.
On this day, the youth occupied centre stage with a marathon competition organised in honour of the warriors who conquered territories for the Bamoun Kingdom decades ago.
A number of activities have been put on schedule to mark the present festivities.
Amongst the most interesting will be the Miss Nguon beauty pageant to take place on 6th December 2018.
On the same day, the final of the local female football championship will precede the ceremony to take place at the Nguon village.
The Minister of Art and Culture Narciss Moelle Kombi is expected to preside over the highlight of the week-long festivities on Friday 7th December 2018.
Winners of different competitions will be awarded prizes in a grand cultural evening on Saturday 8th December 2018.
The 2018 Nguon Festival ends on Sunday 9th December 2018 with a ritual known as “Sho’ Melueh.”
All of these activities will be organised at the Nguon village and the Foumban palace courtyard in the presence of the King, Ibrahim Mbombo Njoya.
The Nguon festival is occasion for thousands of visitors to learn more about the rich culture of the people, a culture that is tied to the history of the Bamoum.
