The Coordination Centre for Emergency Humanitarian Assistance to victims of atrocities of separatists in the North West and South West Regions, has launched its activities.
During the ceremony, the National Coordinator of the Centre, Paul Atanga Nji who is Minister of Territorial Administration, disclosed that more than 60.000 victims have benefitted from assistance.
The majority of the beneficiaries received assistant in 2018, in Bamenda, Buea, Douala and other towns.
Ndo Nixon a builder in Guka, Batibo subdivision is amongst the many internally displaced persons who fled rural areas to resettle in major towns especially the regional capitals, Bamenda and Buea.
The head of a family of four received a mattress, and other basic needs from the Governor’s office in Bamenda.
He expressed gratitude for the humanitarian assistance that helped him to restart life after leaving everything behind as they fled from the violence.
Ma Mary, a woman in her forties said she moved several kilometers in the bush from Belo to Bamenda, using leaves to as napping for her baby, during the challenging journey.
She expressed gratitude for the assistant. She said it is the will of God that she should be alive and receive the humanitarian assistance from the government.
Felix Ngwa, civil servant in Mbengwi said his house was destroyed and looted. The situation forced him to relocate his family to Bamenda, some of his children were sent to relatives in other regions. He said the humanitarian assistance is a timely rescue.
In addition to the Government, political, religious and humanitarian Organizations have been carrying out operations to provide relief supplies to the internally displaced persons.
Traditional and religious authorities in the South West Region have called upon youths in their localities to leave the bushes and return to their homes in a bid to ensure total restoration of peace and serenity in the region.
South West Regional Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai coordinated the management of humanitarian assistance, prescribed by the Head of State for internally displaced victims of the crisis in the region.
