Christians around the world filed into churches on 1st January, 2019 to welcome the new year.
Churches became crowded in the last hours of 31st December 2018 . Being in church on the last of night of 2018 was an end-of-year objective for almost every Christian.
In Yaounde, most christians of orthodox, mainline and even Pentecostal churches spent the first hours of the new year in church.
Church activities began at 9pm . As the minutes narrowed down, the wait for mid night heightened.
When the clock ticked midnight, screams of joy, songs of praise and jubilation welcomed the new year.
The Christians danced, sang songs of joy, lifted hands to heaven in gratitude to God for the gift of life; the gift of a brand new year.
At the ALFANAOMI church in Yaounde, the parish pastor Rev. Pierre Ngnangock told Christians to fix their gaze on the Lord and spend more time in prayer all through the new year.
A similar mood revailed in other churches nationwide.
The watch word for Christians this year is dependence on God for guidance throughout year 2019.
