Cutomised cakes: The story of ‘know-how’ that met resilience

Regina Asanga, an educated housewife could not get an office job. The mother of three had no choice but to think out an income generating activity to contribute in sustaining the family.

” As a housewife and a stay-at-home Mum, it was frustrating so I embarked on baking customised cakes.”

The holder of a Masters Degree in Translation from the University of Yaounde 1, set out to follow her childhood passion.

In the absence of training centres then, Regina did research online and improved her knowledge on baking customised cakes.

“I tried so many recipes, made many errors and also faced difficulties in acquiring ingredients and equipment at the beginning.”

Thanks to the support from her husband she was able to move one step further.

“My husband ordered some of the important equipment I needed, from the USA. He also proposed the name of my business, ‘Fairy’s Touch’!”

Regina’s baking activity started in 2014. She affirms that as time goes on, her skill improves but she is conscious of the importance of continuous training.

“I am proud to be a Professional Baker. It’s been very fulfilling especially when I put a smile on my customer’s face.”

To guarantee continuity, Regina Asanga presently manages an institution to train future professionals.

Her cake “academy” offers three courses:

– courses on baking

– course on decoration (for beginners)

– course on wedding cake decoration (for professionals)

Mrs Asanga’s five year experience and success in the field only tells the story of a “go get it” lady – an inspiration to others.
