State House : President Paul Biya grants audience to the UN ECA’s Executive Secretary

The Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Vera Songwe has been received in audience by the President of Republic, Paul Biya. The audience at the State House was occasion for the Cameroonian born UN executive to discussion relations between Cameroon and the United Nations systems with the Head of State. She updated the President with the different opportunities that accompany the Africa Continental Free Trade Area which Cameroon is still to ratify. At the end of the high level audience, President Paul Biya and Vera Sogwe exchanged gifts. The Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa was elevated to the dignitary of grand officer of Cameroon’s Order of Valour by the President of the President. The UN senior official on a two day official visit to Cameroon told press men after the audience that the Silicon Mountain developed in the University of Buea has great potential. The project can gain more international prominence when African Continental Free Trade Area goes operational. She also saluted Cameroon’s engagement in moving forward negotiations for the implementation of the free trade area. The free trade area has been conceived to eliminate trade barriers and to open every African country to the entire continental market. Elvis Teke
