2019 University Games: Judo competition projects University of Douala

The athletes competing in Judo have been vying for medals at the campus of the school of Youth and Sports (CENAJES) in Dschang. 

Athletes from 17 institutions of higher learning are taking part in the different category of fights from feather weight to heavy weight.

After two days of competition, the University of Douala gets the lead with five gold medals.

The institution has also won three silver medals and one bronze.

The University of Yaounde 1 gets the second position with three gold medals, two in bronze and six in silver while the University of Ngaoundere holds the third position with two Gold medals, two silver medals and three bronze medals.

The final round of judo fights are expected this Wednesday, 8th May 2019 and only then will the overall leader in judo be known.

The indoor sports is monitored by a number of officials and a video assistant referee.

He video records all actions to help officials in their decision.

Before each fight, the athletes undergo body checks to ensure that they are not in possession  of any object that could influence the fight.

A medical team is also on hand to provide first aid and emergency assistance to athletes who suffer injuries during competitions.
