CDC: 20000 plantation workers risk going jobless

The Cameroon Development Corporation is one biggest employer in the country only second to the public service. The crisis in the North West and South West region has negatively affected the corporation forcing the over 20 thousand workers to abandon their plantation for fear of reappraisals.

The general manager of the CDC, Franline  Ngoni Ikome Njie explained that only 40 percent of the  corporation is workers and personnel have gone without salaries for close to eleven months. However, Government has started paying the salary arrears.

He explained the salary burden of CDC stands at 2.2 billion CFA francs and the corporations makes about 60 billion CFA francs in annual turnover when all is well but but over has dwindled to about 22 billion.

Franline Ngoni Ikome Njie explained that despite the fact that plantation workers have abandoned the farmers, “no worker has been laid off”.

He added that as days go by, it becomes more and more expensive to restart plantation activities in abandoned plantations.

The CDC GM called to a return to peace so that the thousands of workers who have become jobless can go back to work and revive the economy of the region.
