National Unity celebration: President Paul Biya presides

All his set for the civilian and military match past marking the climax of celebrations of the 47th edition of the National Day on Monday, 20th May 2019.

The civil cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic has issued a press release announcing the President of the Republic, His Excellency Paul Biya will as from 11am preside over the match past at the 20th May Boulevard in Yaounde.

The nationwide celebration is taking place under the theme: “Unity in diversity, a major asset of the Cameroonian people in their determined move toward emergence.”

In Yaounde, streets have been clean and given a fresh coat of paint. Banners being messages tilted towards peace, unity and development are omnipresent on various streets.

Security has been reinforced at strategic parts of the town.

Foot soldiers and motorised troops who are suppose to take part in the grand parade have taken part in the final and general rehearsals that was watched by the Director of Civil Cabinet and the Chief of Defence Staff.

After two rounds of rehearsals the Defence chief of staff gave final recommendations that will be applied on Monday, 20th May 2019.

Some 16 thousand, 130 pupils, students and political parties represented in parliament and the Senate are expected to match past in front of the Head of State and his guests.

The civilian parade has been organised under the theme: “Consolidation of peace in Cameroon for the harmonious realisation of the greater opportunities programme.”

The matchers also took part in the final and general rehearsals at the 20thMay Boulevard.

The Cameroon Radio Television that will broadcast the parade live has already stationed giant screens and sound speakers at the parade site.

Media professional have been carried out trials to ensure a hitch free broadcast on Radio, TV and web.

Sunday 19th May 2019 all roads lead to the 101 military airbase where a military air show will take place. An open day for military hardware is also ongoing at the base.

Cameroonians use the occasion to learn more about Cameroon’s military and take pictures with some of the military equipment.

A torch light procession is also school from the different subdivisions of Yaounde and they will all converge at central post roundabout
