State House : President Paul Biya grants audience to Michelle Bachelet
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet has been received in audience by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya.
The UN official on a four day visit to Cameroon, discussed on a wide range of issues with Cameroon’s Chief Executive.
The state of relations between Cameroon and the United Nations through its specialised organs came under close focus.
The former Chilean President shared her experience with President Paul Biya in the management of crisis and armed conflicts.
She pledged the UN support in Cameroon’s endeavour in seeking solutions to the sociopolitical crisis in the North West and South West regions.
Both officials undertook to work together in dealing with other issues threatening the country’s security including abduction for ransom in the Adamawa region and sporadic Boko Haram attacks in the Far North Region.
At the end of the audience, Michelle Bachelet told the press that she had fruitful discussions with President Paul Biya.
The visiting UN official was decorated with a medal of honour by the President the Republic.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet is first UN top ranking official to visit Cameroon since the European Union Parliament resolution against the country.
