Training is an indispensable professional value at the High Command for schools and Training Centre.
The Centre has trained thousands of personnel from the National Gendarmerie over the years.
Col. Jean Paul Yebo.
is the Commanding Officer of the 63- year old centre , situated at the MEC round about in Yaounde.
He describes a gendarme as ” An officer who is trained, endowed with integrity, moral values , has respect for professional values , lives in harmony with the population under his care , secures and does not terrorize citizens”
Gendarmes Officers who are recruited into the High Command for Schools and Training Centre, have been previously trained in the Army.
At the end of training, gendarmes are equipped to work in two categories;
# Terrestrial Gendarmes –
Officers who mostly work in offices , Brigades and collaborate with civil authorities.
# Mobile Gendarmes –
They work in squadrons, are law enforcement officers and defend the territorial integrity.
Despite the training offered by the centre, repeated cases of misconduct have been reported within the ranks of the National Gendarmerie.
In the quest to weed out the corrupt personnel , the Minister of Defense, Joseph Beti Assomo set up a toll free number , 1501 citizens can call to denounce cases of corruption , and other forms of malpractices.
The National Gendarmerie will be at the forefront of the march past on the occasion of the 47th National Day on 20th May , when the country celebrates Unity in Diversity.
