Some twenty years ago, the U.S. women’s soccer team won the World Cup for the first time.
Fondly called The ’99ers , the United States women’s national team is best worldwide according to FIFA’s rankings.
Since 1991 when the first FIFA Women’s World Cup was organised, the United States has won three of the seven tournaments, the most recent being in 2015.
The team also won four of six gold medals since 1996 when women’s soccer became an Olympic sport.
