False allegations on MRC 8th June protests: MINCOM clarifies

The Minister of Communication has reacted to recent allegations concerning the 8th June protest match of supporters of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, CRM party.

Contrary to allegations that 200 CRM supporters were arrested and tortured, the Minister of Communication, in a series of tweets affirm that 85 CRM supporters were arrested on 8th June following the match.

The Police: 43 of the 66 persons arrested by the police who claim not to belong to any political party were released.

With regards to the Gendarmerie eleven of nineteen people arrested that same day have been released.

The Minister states that those who are still in detention shall be taken to court.

René Emmanuel Sadi, government spokesman also specified that security officials, did not carry out any form of torture or maltreatment of the detainees.
