The defending champions of African football, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will take on the e Super Eagles of Nigeria in one of the decisive Round of 16 matches at the ongoing 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
The knockout match will be fielded at the 20.000-seater capacity Alexandria Stadium this Saturday 6th July 2019.
The high profile game will see five-time champions take on three-times champions, Nigeria in a game described as a battle of the soaring Super Eagles and the roaring Indomitable Lions.
Nigeria – Cameroon: A 35-year AFCON affair
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and the Super Eagles of Nigeria have a long standing clashes of some 35-years at the Africa Cup of Nations
The Super Eagles of Nigeria participated at their first AFCON in 1963 tournament in Ghana with six countries in the tournament. The host, Ghana won the trophy after defeating Sudan.
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon made their debut participation at the 1970 AFCON in Sudan. Egypt humbled Sudan to lift the prestigious trophy
In all, Nigeria counts 18 participations and Cameroon 19 at the AFCON tournament.
The neigbours have met six times at the AFCON with the first dating back to 1984 in Cote D’Ivoire.

The record is very much in favour of the Super Eagles, who have claimed 10 wins compared to just three for the Indomitable Lions, while five matches have been drawn.
