Cameroon Military: Major General Tataw James Tabe wins the ultimate battle

Cameroon’s Military is bereaved. Retired Major General Tataw James Tabe has fired his final shot.

The 86 year old, Major General who was in the second section of the Military died this Wednesday 24th July 2019 in France following a medical evacuation on the bihest of the Head of State, Paul Biya.

The announcement was made by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo in a press release that also contained a condolence message to the bereaved family.

The General was also traditional ruler of Ossing village in Manyu division of the South West region.

He was born on 5th September 1933 and he joined the Military on 14th June 1955 following his admission in the Military Officer’s National School (MONS) Aldershot in Britain.

He graduated as a sub Lieutenantof the British Army in 1960.

He was assigned to Nigeria from January 1960 to August 1961 as Chief of Section at the 5th regiment of the Queen of England in Kadouna.

In September 1961 he returned to Cameroon and commanded the National Armed Forces Training Centre, (CIFAN). He was promoted to Lieutenant on 23rd December 1961 and subsequently to Captain in December 1964.

He also held the position of Commander of the West Cameroon Military Sector from where he was promoted to Commander of the second Military sector on 23 August 1972.

He climb the command ladder to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel on 22nd June 1973.

He studied at the Paris War College from 1973 to 1974 and in 1980 at the Institut des Hautes Etudes de la Défense Nationale in Paris.

James Tataw was appointed Director of Personnel at the then Ministry of Armed Forces on 7th July 1976 and promoted to the rank of colonel on 8th July 1978.

He was later appointed Commander of Land Forces on 18th July 1981.

On 1st June 1983, he was appointed Brigadier General. He was raised to Major General on 25th September 2001.

He was Chief of charge Army Headquarters till September 2001.

Prior to his demise he had been admitted in to the second section of the Cameroon Army.
