Muslim pilgrimage: Travel modalities made easy

Accredited supervisors of Cameroonian pilgrims have been received in audience by the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji. During the meeting that held on 11 July 2019 in Yaoundé, the practical for modalities were the pilgrimage were reviewed.

The President of the National Commission of Hajj 2019, Paul Atanga Nji and the guides of Cameroonian pilgrims also discussed on measures taken by government ensure the supervision of pilgrims from departure, arrival, stay and return.Measures taken to ensure that Cameroonian pilgrims do not suffer from any incident during their stay in the holy cities were also discussed.

Paul Atanga Nji told the guides that the Head of State pays particular attention to the pilgrimage.”We must be proactive and strive for perfection in the organization. It is for this reason that we work hand in hand with the guiders” He added.

The Minister of Territorial Administration indicated that the first contingent of 2840 pilgrims will leave Cameroon on 29 July 2019 to Mecca in Saudi Arabia to perform the 5th pillar of Islam. He told them that measures have already been taken to ensure the transportation of the pilgrims to the holy cities”.

He said that the faithful will be transported in groups from Yaoundé, Douala and Garoua. Government has already taken measures to ensure the accommodation of Cameroonian pilgrims in the holy city of Medina, the second holy city in Islam; they will be lodged at a hotel located some 400m from the Mosque of the Holy Prophet Mohammed.

Each pilgrim is required to have done a medical checkup before departure. They are also prohibited from transporting dangerous items like knives, harmful or toxic foods. Pilgrims must have identification badges duly issued by guides.The Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji told the guides to ensure the scrupulous respect of the measure.

He said during the previous pilgrimage, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia extended congratulations for Cameroon for the efficient organization and he expects the pilgrims to strive for perfection. The meeting was organized after the President of the Republic made available a one billion CFA Francs granted to pilgrims to reduce the costs of participation.
