2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games: Japan presents guidebook

The Japanese Embassy in Cameroon has presented a guidebook of the 2020 Olympics and Paralympic Games to be hosted in Tokyo, Japan in July 2020.

 

The brief but colourful event was organized in the evening of Thursday 8th August 2019 at the residence of the Japanese Ambassador to Cameroon, His Excellency Tsutomu Osawa.

Before proposing a toast with the bilateral ties existing between Cameroon and Japan, the Diplomat took to the rostrum to highlight the importance of this high profile sporting and cultural event to his home country.

To the ambassador, the Tokyo 2020 games will be a melting point to project Japan’s high technology and her rich cultural values.

 

 

His Excellency Tsutomu Osawa believes the games will be an occasion to spread the value of sports and Olympic movement to all generations, including young people who will lead the future and create a better world.

Just eight years after the gigantic tsunami struck and killed some fifteen thousand people, Japan intends to use the games to convey a message of gratitude to Cameroon and the world for helping them recover from the calamity.

The Japanese Diplomat used the cocktail to congratulate the Vice President of the National Olympic and Sports Committee, Engoulou Odette for her election as member of the International Olympic Committee.

The President of the National Paralympic Committee and the Representative of the President of the National Olympic and Sports Committee assured Japan of Cameroons continuous support and participation at the games.

Japan and Olympic Games

Japan organized the first Olympic and Paralymic games in 1964 just ten year after the Second World War She was the first Asian country to play host to a competition of this weight.

The tens of thousands of visitors and athletes were amazed with the rapid train ‘Shinkansen’ technologies, highways and clean cities in Japan.

It was the first participation for Cameroon with the only representative, David Njitock.

In 2020, Japan will host to a total of 33 different sports at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The 2020 Games are also the first time that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has enabled the Organising Committee to propose additional sports for that edition of the Olympic Games.

The Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee proposed the five additional sports of Baseball/ Softball, Karate, Skateboarding, Sport Climbing and Surfing. All five were approved by the IOC for inclusion in the Tokyo 2020.

In the Paralympics, a total of 22 sports will feature at the Tokyo 2020 Games. The sports of Taekwondo and Badminton will make their debuts at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games after being adopted by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

The games will run from Friday 22nd August 2020 to Sunday 6th September 2020.
